Death

Previous exhibition

18 March – 4 Nov 2018

An exhibition on the end of life.

To die. Dead. Death.
Three real words
When they become reality
Everything seeems unreal

There are few taboos in our society, but Death is still one.

This year’s great exhibition at Maihaugen approches Death through many of the museum’s objects. The exhibition gives information on traditions related to Death and gives room for reflection. New questions may also arise. Death concerns us all.

The spruce is dominant in our exhibition. A forest of dead Christmas trees. From dust it has come, to dust it will be – also the Christmas tree. There is a beginning and an end. Life and Death. All is connected.

We hope our approach to Death in this exhibition and other events will help us speak more easily and naturally about Death and funeral – also your own.

The installation with the Christmas trees is made by a Norwegian group of artists called Lambretta. The group was formed in 1982, and consists of Edgar Ballo, Axel Ekwall, Erik Annar Evensen and Ole Henrik Hagen.
