This year it is the artist Liv Blåvarp who has decorated Maihaugen's Christmas tree.

Versatile artist

Liv Blåvarp (b. 1956) is an internationally acclaimed and original jewelry artist who lives and works in Lena, Toten. Her jewelry is sculptural, often large and colorful. Blåvarp combines Norwegian and exotic woods in her pieces, crafted with high-quality artisanal techniques.

The collection of decorations for the Christmas tree at Maihaugen is based on an old geography book from 1964—a book I also had in elementary school. The decorations include items covered in maps and images from the book, mixed with pieces with a more traditional look.

I envision the tree as an expression of both the distant and the close, the world and the frames of home. Migratory birds flying to distant lands, and those who stay, coming to the bird feeder… This work is both play and seriousness.

Different artists

The first artist to design decorations for Maihaugen's Christmas tree was Per Spook in 2008. He decorated it with glass art. Since then the tree has been decorated by different artists and designers every year.
