Guided walk – Farewell, Mother Norway
Every day
12 am (English), 2 pm (Norwegian)
The dream of a better life drew Norwegians to America in the 1800s. Some became the rich uncle overseas—others were never heard from again.
In 2025, we mark the 200th anniversary of the first organized emigration from Norway to America. Set against the backdrop of the open-air museum Maihaugen, this walk tells the story of why people left Gudbrandsdalen, what awaited them across the Atlantic, and the political efforts to curb the wave of emigration.
Join us for a compelling walk from the old schoolhouse to the cotter’s farm at Stykkebakken.
