1932 - Telephone Booth
A masterpiece of functionalist design created by Georg Fredrik Fasting in 1932
The iconic red phone booth is one of the best examples of functionalist design. It was the result of an architectural competition organized by the Oslo Telephone Installation in 1932. The winner was "Riks", designed by architect Georg Fredrik Fasting from Bergen.
The jury described the winning design as follows: “No. 80 "Riks". The proposal shows a strikingly simple solution to the task, both technically and aesthetically, and is well thought out. It meets all the program's requirements in a satisfactory manner. Both in layout and construction, the author hit the mark perfectly. This booth can be placed almost anywhere. The user manual could advantageously be placed above the device, but the suggested mounting can also be approved. The door must swing outward."
