All day
Photo exhibition by Breisjøen with stories about buildings, tools, boats and techniques developed and used when fishing.
The fish resources in the lakes and rivers in the Gudbrandsdalen area have been important for settlement. Landowners in general are entitled to the fishing rights on their land.
After the last ice age, some twenty fish species migrated to Lake Mjøsa. Waterfalls and rapids prevented further migration. Brown trout (Salmo trutta) was taken past the migration barriers and stocked in mountain lakes as a 12th century rune stone declares: “Eiliv Elg carried fish to lake Rausjø”.
The two “Knuvel huts” from the early 19th century were located close to River Lågen. The huts were used to store equipment and as lodging by the fishermen during the hard and often cold vendace fishing season in October. Inside the huts, there are photographs, and equipment used for fishing vendace and large brown trout are displayed.
