This year the artists Solveig Lønseth and Andreas Öhman are decorating Maihaugen's Christmas tree.
Every year an artist or designer makes specially designed decorations for Maihaugen's Christmas tree. This year, the tree is decorated by the artists Solveig Lønseth and Andreas Öhman.
The couple, originally from Inderøy in Trøndelag and Täby in Sweden, moved from Oslo to Lillehammer in 2023. Here, they settled into Ringsveen — the home that once belonged to the artist Jakob Weidemann and his wife, Anne Marie.
“The decision to settle at Ringsveen feels, in many ways, both decisive and directional for our shared life and artistic practice. Here, we hope to find the place where life and art can truly become one,” they say.
Solveig works with sculpture, while Andreas is a painter. Both have exhibited their work nationally and internationally, and have received grants and awards. Yet, they have never before created art together.
“This is the first time we are joining forces to create a collaborative artwork. We are delighted to have received this commission, and we hope the decorations will express a meeting between our artistic practices and the lived life at Ringsveen,” they explain.
Solveig Lønseth (b. 1986, Inderøy) holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO, 2015). She has received numerous distinctions for her work, including the Norwegian Government Grant for Established Artists (2024–2034). Her work has been shown at Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin, Centre de Création Contemporaine Olivier Debré (CCC OD) in Tours, France, and at Kunstnerforbundet, Kunstnernes Hus, and STANDARD (Oslo), as well as Nils Aas Kunstverksted, Saksumdal Tempel, Salgshallen, and HULIAS.
Andreas Öhman (b. 1988, Täby, Sweden) holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (2015) and studied at Gerlesborgskolan in Bohuslän (2010–2012).
He made his debut at The Annual Autumn Exhibition (Høstutstillingen) in 2015. Since then, he has held a solo exhibition at Destiny’s (Oslo) and participated in group exhibitions at The Vigeland Museum, Akershus Art Centre, Drammen Museum, UKS, Bærum Kulturhus, Kunstnernes Hus, Kurant, Saksumdal Tempel, and a self-initiated exhibition at Gøteborggata 38 (Oslo).
The first artist to design decorations for Maihaugen's Christmas tree was Per Spook in 2008. He decorated it with glass art. Since then the tree has been decorated by different artists and designers every year.
