Maihaugen open-air museum has a lot to offer in the summer with tours and walking plays, farm animals, actors and guides in houses and farms and beautiful landscape. You can easily spend a day, or even more, here at wonderful Maihaugen.

Walking plays

The walking plays are highly recommended and also included in the entrance ticket. We offer performances every day from the middle of June to the middle of August. The walking play Knock, Knock, who's there? is suitable for the entire family. We join the itinerant peddler's walk from farm to farm trying to sell his things to the farmers.

Historic homes

Maihaugen is the perfect place to experience how life in Norway was in the past.

Homes from different times all over the open-air museum is open for you to enter. Some of them are peopled by characters in period dress or excellent guides. Experience farm life in the late 1800s or meet the teenager at home in the 1980s house.

Exciting tours

Join in a guided tour Into Norwegian homes or experience the highlights of the museum in the walk Maihaugen in 60 minutes, which you take on your own. In August the guided tour Walk round about, Peer! is popular.

Grazing animals

A lot of farm animals live at Maihaugen, and children love to meet them. All summer the animals are out grazing in the open-air museum. You can see pigs, hens, cows, sheep, goats, horses and rabbits.

Childrens activities

Another exciting way for children to explore the open-air museum is to solve the rebus The Message. You can aslo try fishing in Breisjøen or draw your own stamp at The Norwegian Postal Museum at Maihaugen. Also check out the play houses in the Residential area. Here you will find both a historic play house, and a new one for playing.

Maihaugen is the home of several great exhibitions indoor and out in the open-air museum. This year's great exhibition in the visitor center is Birkebeinerrennet – from medieval saga to test of strength. There you may also see the postal museum's new exhibition Norwegian Art on Postage Stamps.

Shops and eateries

Do not miss our historic shop in the open-air museum and the nice museum shop in the visitor center. At summer there are several places where you can buy something to eat or drink.
